BYRNES READY TO KEEP DELIVERING FOR CUNNINGHAM

28 March 2025

ALISON BYRNES MP
MEMBER FOR CUNNINGHAM

Over the last three years nearly $1 billion worth of investments in health, education, aged care, infrastructure and cost of living relief has flowed to the Illawarra as a result of the work and advocacy of Alison Byrnes MP, Member for Cunningham.

During this term Ms Byrnes has helped deliver:

  • Medicare Urgent Care Clinics at Corrimal and Dapto, providing urgent and bulk-billed care for local residents
  • Over $9 million for local crisis, transitional and affordable homes for locals in need
  • Cheaper medicines through 60-day prescriptions and slashing the cost of PBS prescriptions
  • Tax cuts for every taxpayer, with 84 per cent of locals better off under Labor’s tax cuts
  • Cheaper childcare for more than 5700 families
  • Energy bill relief for every household and eligible small business
  • Reduced student debt for more than 30,000 local students
  • $17.4 million for more aged care beds in the Illawarra, with IRT Unanderra to soon open an additional 48 beds, as well as upgrading 52 rooms
  • The Mount Ousley Interchange to enhance commuter safety
  • Community batteries in Warrawong and Dapto which expect to save up to $400 on power bills for residents who sign up

With the 2025 election having been called for 3 May, in Cunningham, this election is about a choice between a candidate with a track record of delivery and a plan for continued investment in the Illawarra and candidates who have put forward no positive plans for our jobs, education, health, housing or our region’s future.

To make housing more affordable, we need to build more homes.

It won’t happen overnight, but it’s the best and most lasting fix to our affordable housing shortage. Labor has an ambitious goal of building 1.2 million homes for Australia. All three levels of government in the Illawarra are working together to build more homes for locals, but there’s more to do.

This election is a chance to keep the Illawarra moving forward and building a better future for our region.

Quotes attributable to the Member for Cunningham, Alison Byrnes MP:

“Over the last three years I have helped secure nearly $1 billion worth of investments in health, education, aged care, infrastructure, and cost of living relief for the Illawarra.

“Whether it’s delivering cost-of-living relief, securing better infrastructure, standing up for workers, or making sure young people have every opportunity to succeed — I’ll never stop being a strong voice for our community.

“I’ve always said that representing our community is the greatest privilege of my life. I was born here, lived my entire life here, and will never stop fighting for the people who call it home.

“I care about people, I care about jobs and I care about our planet – these are the principles which guide and drive me.

“The election has now formally started and I call on all candidates to match my commitment of $10 million for the Southern Suburbs Community Centre and Library – you cannot talk about our infrastructure needs if you are not willing to back it up with a commitment to one of the most important investments we could make in the region.

“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together, but I know there’s more work ahead. I am committed to continue delivering for Cunningham and building a better future for our region.”
