The Albanese Labor Government is delivering on its promises made at the last federal election.

This July, the Government’s $4.5 billion cheaper child care package, changes to paid parental leave, and increases to Medicare rebates all come into effect.

Federal Member for Cunningham, Alison Byrnes said from 1 July, we will see many of our key promises become reality – like changes to Paid Parental Leave, which will give families greater flexibility when they need it most.

“We know that families are under pressure with the cost of living right now and these changes to Paid Parental Leave and cheaper childcare will go a long way in providing relief for households in our community.”

Labor’s cheaper child care initiatives will see the child care subsidy increase for nearly 16,000 families in the region. Child care will now be cheaper for 96% of local families, with no family being worse off.

However, these are not the only measures coming into effect from July.

Federal Member for Whitlam, Stephen Jones MP said Labor promised to establish a National Anti-Corruption Commission and it has now opened its doors.

“The N.A.C.C will be critical in restoring integrity and trust in Government, and I am proud to be part of a Government that has acted in the public interest.” Mr Jones said.

Labor is also delivering on its commitments to fix aged care after a decade of neglect, by putting nurses back into nursing homes to restore dignity to residents in aged care.

From 1 July 2023, Australians in aged care will have better access to care as it becomes mandatory for a registered nurse to be onsite at every aged care facility in Australia - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Albanese Labor Government legislated this requirement in 2022, delivering on a key pledge from the federal election to return nurses to nursing homes and improve the quality of care older people receive.
